So how does the trip knob on a Z1R get safely removed?

Not on the two Z1R speedos I have here.... and they are both genuine Kawasaki KM/H gauges.
I rang Al Marshall and he was correct in saying "Lock the spindle in place with a flat-blade screwdriver via the access hole in the rear of the speedo housing, then turn the knob "CLOCKWISE" to unscrew.
He also said it's the same for MPH gauges too.
