Z1000A1 Float Valves

#1 PostAuthor: Speedie » Sat Nov 20, 2021 12:25 pm

I'm refurbishing my carbs (been sitting for 20 years) and called Motocarb for genuine replacement float valves. The originals have 2.3 stamped on them, but I was told these are now obsolete and that I should go for the 2.5 size, which I bought. I did ask if there would be any operational issues and was advised ''not at all''
Still slightly concerned, I thought I would ask for the forums vast experience on the matter. I'm guessing the sizes relate to the hole size and that 0.2 of a mm shouldn't cause to much of a fuelling issue?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks
Paul

Don't see why it should cause any issues, just means the bowls should fill quicker then once full shut off exactly as the smaller size.

I run 2.0 in my Z1a with no issues, purely because thats what I had "in stock", they were oem and as fitted to my z650. Had mega issues with crappy float needle valves in the past like you wouldn't believe. My logic was that the 650 is fed from one fuel line and has similar ish consumption to the Z1, the Z1 is fed by two lines, one per pair of carbs so shouldn't be an issue. If I remember correctly when at Daytona in the states they were testing the Z1 flat out on endurance runs the worst consumption was around 24 mpg at about 120 x 130 mph. I have also taken a couple of Z1a carb sets apart and found 2.0 installed. There is some part number confusion by Kawasaki in this area ar this time. Granted the very early Z1 had different carbs with slightly different internals and dedicated float needle valve, 2.5 or 2.6? If 2.6 exists?
