Z900 tyres

#1 PostAuthor: gray » Tue Nov 30, 2021 9:55 pm

I'm looking for a pair of new tyres for my standard z9 . In the distant past I had Metzlers, then a few years ago Bridgestone (BT45??) which gripped well but wore out fast. Currently on Dunlop (arrowmax i think). Anyone got any feedback on any new tyres on the market that are good for "spirited" riding fun?
Thanks

Not exactly a recommendation but I've been using continental RB2 (front) and K112 (rear) which have a great classic look about them and gave a very sticky confident ride. But the rear wore out in 2500 miles, replaced it and got 2700. I really like the tyre and must be a sucker for punishment as I fitted a third rear but only got 2500 again. Seemed a bit too low mileage so I've just fitted a bt46 hoping for better mileage but reading your comment about "bt45 wore out fast" I guess time will tell. I'm already regretting the modern look of the bt46 :(

If that question had been asked a few years ago there would have been a resounding recommendation for Bridgstone BT45's, so it interesting to the various tires now being fitted.

I fitted Battlax BT45's to my A4 about 1,500 miles ago and still have plenty of tread left (7.75mm rear), but then I don't ride like a 'hoon', most of the time... I think the BT45 tire pattern suits the A4 ok, more importantly it rides well on them, although the pressure needs to be higher being modern 'rubber'.

What he said.

Had them on a couple of old big Zeds and performed well with nice predictable handling...

Of all the tyres I have tried and used over the years never tried avon. A mate swore by their road riders on his zeds, so gave em a go, revelation to me, these tyres are probably the best I have ever used on a bike full stop.
Currently fitted to my Z1a and Z650b1. Really sure footed and confidence inspiring, despite the horror stories in the press I am finding the wear rate very good, far better than the bt45s.
