Hi.
Would very much like to get some feed back on what after market shocks people are fitting to there early GPz1100B's / Z1000J/R's and how they perform. Considering investing in an upgrade.

Alan.

I have race Nitron R3 stealth on mine. Totally over the top and unecessary and stupid expensive / complicated but............ i no longer have a back end on the bike, it drives itself / shocks sort everything out without a thought or hesitation!!!!
I did have Koni dial-a-ride's before and they were perfectly adequate just not inspiring. YSS make some good ones as do a few other notable companies. I guess it really comes down to budget and appearance. Mine were £1100.

I have Ikons on my standard Gpz 1100 b1 and they work fine. For more spirited riding, I have Jaygui shocks which are brilliant on my Endurance bike and Works Performance on my Lawson. The Jaygui shocks are priced mid range, unfortunately you can't get Works Performance ones anymore and they were extremely expensive coming from America.
YSS are excellent bargain shocks and they do a couple of different ones in their range. Wemoto are a stockist for these.

The last two times I've bought shocks I've used Bike Revival. It's best to ignore the slightly clunky website and just contact them directly. You'll find yourself in contact with a very knowledgeable chap who will make a few suggestions based on your requirements.

I ended up with Progressive shocks on my Z1000a1 and made to order Shock Factory on my Gpz1100b2. Both reasonably priced options that I wouldn't have found myself and both suit the bikes very well.

Good service, recommended.

I've just fitted a pair of standard showa cb1300 shocks to my B2. They are a bit longer than standard, fit straight on without mods and work really well, I had Konis on it before and they were good but these look more Lawsony!

I had konis on mine, replaced with Ohlins, absolutely no comparison, they transformed the bike!

Hi.

I fancy a set of Ohlins but they're not listing a fitment part number/type currently. They do for the water cooled variant GPZ's though. Anyone got a
part number or suggestion what might work and fit ? I like the look of the new black variant very much.

I've chatted with FTR about options and YSS list off the shelf shocks to suit, anybody had experience with them on big Zed's ? I don't fancy splashing out £700+ and ending up disappointed, something I think is very unlikely with Ohlins.

Hi.

Someone must have looked into this, ZXR1200 shocks, are they compatible with the B2's dimensions/spring rates ?

Just check both bikes weight, if they are close {and they are} , the shocks should work fine, quite a few people have used these shocks so hopefully someone will chime in... I think you may have to clearance your chain guard for the spring on the ZRX shock

Hi.

Thanks for the reply. I realise the bikes are close in weight but its more likely the shocks are a different lengths and bush end sizes that will dictate their fitment. Think I will contact an Ohlins supplier for some dimensions in the new year as they still supply that model.
I agree that after looking at the after market shocks about the clearance with the chain guard is going to be issue. I wont be modifying the newly acquired NOS one I have but will make a replica I can modify if needed.

As far as I know the ZRX are a bit longer than the stock shocks, that wouldn't hurt on the 1100 because they have a fairly lazy rake, I think its 27 or 28 degrees, so longer shocks would bring the rake back a bit giving slightly faster steering...

Hi.

Done a bit of research and the standard length for the GPz is 347mm and the ZXR 365mm.

That sounds about right, I'm using 365mm shocks on my 1982 GPZ750 to help get the rake in a bit..Helps with weight bias as well.. I haven't sorted my chain guard yet but I'm also using an alloy swingarm...

Used K-Tech Razer R shocks on one of mine, they'll build a pair to your spec.. length, spring rate etc.

A cheaper option would be Hagon.. not their cheap stuff, but they have Nitro shocks made from Stainless, with adjustable damping and various colours, again built to your spec at no extra cost. Quality is excellent for the price.
