Rim pitting and date stamps

Guys.

I have recently had my ’73 wheel rims stripped before rechroming only to find that they have been done once before and are fairly badly pitted. The up-shot of this is two-fold (so I am told.)

Firstly; that whatever copper treatment is used to flatten out defects/pitting prior to re-plating, can only be done once and not repeated - in which case are there any options that would allow me to get them restored a second time?
Secondly; the date stamps are just about legible and will disappear if re-chromed without something being done to reinstate them or ‘embolden them’ before they are re-plated.

That’s my dilemma guys. Can anyone throw light on any of the points there for me please?

Thanks in advance.
Stewart.
