Sorry my dyslexia kicked in and read the question back to front.
So I have some shaft drive parts left over that I don't need

Yes! But only using the ST/MK2 square cam cover cases or later Z1000J /GPZ cases and relevent parts from the equivalent Shaft drive model of the same engine type..
Early 900 and 1000 round camcover models up to the Z1R D1 didn't have a shaft model in the range so can't be converted.
The difference preventing this is that the transmission covers bolt pattern is different on the earlier engines and the later shaft models bevel gear case doesn't fit.

thanks to Gus and Zed 1015 for your response to the question thats answered that question, so does the cases need to be split to do the conversion.
thanks michael

Hi z1r
yes you must split the cases because you have to change the output shaft.
What engine are you going to use to convert from chain to shaft?
As zed1015 says you'll have to use a MK2 or H engine to convert. The other cases (Z900 or Z1000A1/A2) won't work.
If you use a MK2 or H engine case, you'll need an ST gear change.
I think it will be much easier to find a second hand ST engine, those can easily be found.
