16 inch wheels from Ltd bikes had different spacers to the 18 inch wheels. The 18 inch rear Z1R alloys had different spacers to the spoked 18 inch rear rims.

Hello KZ1000Mark, did you get this wheel spacer puzzle sorted out ? - and if you did could you please post the answer ! Like Adrian said, the Z1R 18" type wheel and the Ltd 16" wheels have different bearing spacings. This was news to me because I always assumed they were the same, HOWEVER, I just pulled some old wheels out of the shed and measured them through the centre spindle bore and checked the length from end to end with the original bearings and centre spacer in place.
For Z1R - I measure 110mm
For 1000Ltd - I measure 118mm
(modified steel rule and old glasses - but close enough)
Both these wheels use the same sprocket carrier assembly so far as I know so the difference must be on the disc side - different calliper/calliper brake disc - somebody please correct me if I've got it wrong - so its the spacers on the disc side you'll need to adjust - I think ? I think the distance from the back of the disk to the centreline of the wheel will be the same for both wheels using a given disc so Iogic says its the spacer on the inside of the calliper mounting needs adjusting (?)
As Adrian said, the old chrome / wire spike wheels are different again and although these look close to 118mm over the bearings, the sprocket carrier is completely different.
ALSO, what year / model are you working on and does it have the standard swinging arm ?
Some early aftermarket swinging arms had extra / different wheel spacers and ALSO later 1981 bikes with 1000J type engines have different wheels / bearings which can look similar to the 77-80 Z1000 series bikes.....
Best plan if you can is always get a wheel / sprocket carrier disc and caliper mounting with all the spacers from the same model year .... but thats getting hard to do and expensive these days !
