ZX1100 Fuel return valve

#1 PostAuthor: Simonic » Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:07 pm

This question concerns the fuel return valve fitted to the fuel tank of the ZX1100,mine is an 83.
So i took the fuel tank off yesterday and when i took the pipe off the fuel return valve fuel flowed freely out of the tank. Is this what it should do? I was under the impression that this valve was a one way pressure valve actuated by return fuel pressure from the the injection system.
If fuel should not flow when the pipe is just taken off and it is faulty can it be rebuilt or do i need a new one ?
Thank You gentlemen

The fuel return valve should not let fuel out of the tank. It sounds like yours is stuck open. With the valve off the tank you should be able to get a cocktail stick and pushing it up the pipe end, see the valve open and close. I’ve heard that if you bottom out the spring you can gently tap out the spring retainer with a punch. Then you can inspect the valve and seat but I’ve never had to do that myself.

the valve consists of a small piston with an O ring its Common for the O ring to wear & the piston jam open. the O ring is not available as a separate item but shouldn't be a problem to sauce. the complete valve assembly is still available to buy from any kawasaki dealer for about £40
