Zed thou st 1981 original bike

#1 PostAuthor: mark d » Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:02 pm

Anyone on here had a tapping noise coming from there tank ? I’ve lifted the tank up of the frame and it still does it , even with the wires unplugged it does it too it’s not doing any harm just a bit irritating ,I got rid of my first st in 1990 because of this reason as then I thought it was coming from the engine could it be that it needs a new sender or an adjustment hammer tool ? I’ve not taken anything apart yet as I thought I would ask on here first

I take it this is with the engine running.

Does it stop if you open the filler cap?

Struggling to let air in the breather hole.

Yes with the engine running and tried with the filler cap open and with a full tank off fuel. it’s a uk bike , been in my family from new . I’m going to try it with two long lengths of rubber tube with the tank on the bench tmrw to eliminate any engine taps travelling up the fuel and vacuum pipe

Does it do it on 'prime', not talking about Amazon.

Yes still does it on prime, took tank off this morning and put it on the bench and connected up the vacuum and petrol pipe and it still does it , took sender unit out as I thought it could be the sender arm touching the side of the tank as it’s really close so I bent it slightly away from the side and that didn’t work
