Hi all. Have a slight issue today. The bike will not start.no neutral light or oil light. Main lights & indicators all working. Kz1000

As the neutral and oil pressure light and starter motor all earth through the engine do you have a good engine to battery earth? Just a suggestion as I'm not an electrickery guru.

No horn neither

I think horn should ground/earth through the handle bars.

Ah ok. Only thing i did was take the front light unit off. The glass lens. Wondered if there was any wiring in there i disturbed.

as Gus replied: earth wiring failure. Check the connection of the minus pole of the battery to the main loom and check the earth wire on the engine. This happened to one my bikes a few months ago, it turned out that the black-yellow wire, coming from the negative pole of the battery was sitting too loose in the connection of the main loom. When I squeesed the connector a bit it was OK. It took me several hours before I could find the gremlin! Electricity can be a pain in the ....

Thanks again. All seems to look ok. Thats to me. But unsure what im looking for regarding earthing etc. I’ll probably take it in to the guy thats fitted new started clutch etc. hes a 70s/80s guru. Wierd how all was good last night. Not rode it.

It is an absolute nightmare distance diagnosing electrical faults, however if you have only removed the headlamp then the issue is more than likely to be in one of the multi connectors therein, check all the connections especially the brown wire coming from the ignition switch ....good luck

I had a very similar issue on my Z1000H a month or so ago. A switched 12V wire coming down from the ignition switch into the main harness had somehow broken. It's a bit of a rogue brown wire that looks like an afterthought as it runs alongside the large multi-pin connectors in the headlight. Result for me was no neutral or oil warning light. Repaired wire and all ok.

Thanks again for the info. Yes. Only thing ive done is drop the lens out to get to the headlamp fixing bolts as ive fitted a Gpz style nose fairing which clamps to the the head light bolts
Ill have a good check around inside. Its got to be on there.

No. Been away. Just looking now. All seems good to me inside the headlamp. Cannot seen to find anything loose or worn.

Right !! Problem solved. Was a 10a fuse. All looked ok but when i swapped them around it fired up. Then no lights which previously worked. So new 10a fuse needed & all should be good
