hi everyone,can anybody tell me where the single black wire goes to from the regulator ???...i will be upgrading to the reg/rec from z power,but at the moment i have the old system and i need to know where that black wire connects to ?..

Earth to the engine block. Same connection as the battery earth

hi john,i have fitted a new harness and i have a spare earth connector (black/yellow wire) right where the rectifier is...can i use that..

You could, however depending on the age and condition of the earth wires in the loom, the smart way would be to run a wire to the engine earth point ( i.e the other end of the battery negative lead ), however your idea is perfectly acceptable

You didn't mention what reg you have. The early ones had a spade-like connection to allow a 6mm hex screw to fix it to the block. From what you said, it sounds like you have the later reg with the wire coming out of the regulator loom ending in a bullet connection. In that case, what Keith says is correct.
