Battery fried after receiving 18v for the first miles running in this country. So, battery and voltage regulator required.
Valley batteries are close to me but the regulator? New type reg and diode unit or original?
Any recommendations?
Cheers guys

I’m usually very traditional with the bikes have and when they are fitted with separate rectifier and voltage regulator as they were when new I always try to retain this setup.
However, I’ve just restored a Z650 which had suffered a serious rectifier failure and the damage it caused to the electrical system/Loom was far reaching.
I wouldn’t want the same to happen again so on this bike I’ve fitted a good quality combined unit from Electrex.
It’s easy to fit, controls the battery voltage very well and I’m hoping, very reliable!
It all comes down to how original you want the bike to be.

Reliability is far more important to me, anything I replace I save for the next owner to decide on originality

One of the let downs on the Z1 was the regulator. Pretty useless.
Get a combined unit like this one

Ralph sells an Electrex one quite keenly priced needs a bit of fiddling to fit but a bit cheaper.

To go to an original NOS unit is quite expensive at around £400 and after laying around for maybe 40+ years is an expensive gamble.
