Solenoid or Stater motor?

Hi,
I’m trying to start my Z1000A1, not got it to fire yet but its stop turning over. When I press the starter button theres a load “click” and nothing more, it has been turning over but has done this from time to time. Had the starter out a few times and stripped but can’t find much wrong. My question is - is it likely to be the starter motor or is the solenoid sticking do you think? I’ve also fully charge the battery and tried a jump starter on it……

Cheers Russ

Have you tried bypassing the solenoid by shorting across the two top terminals with a spanner/jump lead etc. If the starter turns over it's the solenoid, if it doesn't its the starter. Narrows it down.

If you rebuilt the starter and over tightened the two long case screws it makes the planetary gears very tight and stops the starter turning. Also the planetary gearbox should be well greased with fresh grease.

Once you've checked it out, before reffiting you can put your foot on it and jup leads to check she spins up OK.
