New tyre not seating max pressure?
I can't get the tyre to seat what sort of max pressure am I looking at to get it to seat or any tips would really be appreciated
Re: New tyre not seating max pressure?
Hi.
When installing always use a soap/lubricant to aid seating. Apply air pressure steadily. I've used 90 psi before on some cast wheels before they popped into place.

Don't use washing up liquid as a lubricant it's got salt in it and eats ally wheels. Use the correct stuff, rim seal, it lubricates the seating and then seals any small leaks.

go to your local tyre fitting depot with a small container ( I used a pee specimen bottle the chemist gave me) + Use liberally

Hi.
Just to add when inflating with highish pressures do it with the valve out for a quick pressure release. Inflate in stages allowing the tyre time to creep on the wheel. Its wont pop back when it gets seated so apply the valve and inflate to standard pressure.

Yup, I always use max pressure with valve out. Usually tires are seated well on both sides before reaching 90 psi. Depends on the tire and condition of the wheel.
Cleaning the inner sides of the wheel from corrosion or whatever helps a lot.

Hi.
Just to reiterate - 90 psi is the max I ever used. Normally the tyre will seat at 50/60 psi ish. For lubrication I have always used Hellerine oil. Its an inert light rubber lubricant. Just a smear on the tyre does the job. I came across it in my aircraft apprenticeship in the 70's. I'm on my second bottle now and its about 1/2 full and still serving me well.

Thanks everyone all done now de-beaded it a bit of tyre soap and 70 psi done the trick.
