Nova certificate

#1 PostAuthor: floydsz1 » Tue Oct 24, 2023 7:46 pm

Good evening, just been to look at a tatty zed but the guy also wanted to sell me a h2A that needs a full restoration. It needs a few parts, seat, rear mudguard etc, it's been stood a while covered in wd40 so it's not too rusty. The engine is seized, hopefully from standing as he's owned it about 10 years and never done anything with it. It's got a nova certificate and original registration paperwork from the usa but what I'd like to know can I register it (and how) as it is or does it need to be up and running and mot'd. It will be a long term project ( if I keep it )but as he's already had it professionally painted (tank, panels, tailpiece) in gold etc it might be worth me keeping it until a later date, or I might just sell it on. What is interesting is the engine and frame numbers are one digit apart, I'd presume they'd be like the zeds and be miles apart. I've never had much to do with the triples so I know some on here have them so thought I'd ask people's advice, before I contemplate the dark side. Rick brett will be my next contact Thanks. Peter.

From what I have gathered when enquiring the same was it needs to be as close to a complete bike as possible , doesn't need to be running . Not a box of bits .
There is a chance no one will come to see it , only a chance. I have registered bikes previously and no one came but the last one I tried to do it when it was stripped and they wanted to see it , my mistake so I had to postpone the inspection.

This is how it is now but obviously the bodywork isn't on it but could be put back on. No idea where the back light / mudguard went.

Looks good enough to me . A mudguard and light won't worry them .

Nothing else for sale , he was going to restore it but works abroad a lot so decided he's not got the time. He's a very nice standard gsxr750f and one of the dry clutch slabsiders. He's keeping them. I've still got the z1000j Eddie lawson for sale and possibly my gsxr750h. Keeping my z1b. Was really looking for a kawasaki 100cc or 125cc old trail type to restore, something small and light.

Decided not to buy the h2 or anything else. Needed lots of work and wasn't as many new parts with it as I thought. Wasn't sure about any tax that might be due because he didn't have anymore paperwork.
Still got the 1000j for sale, would consider a decent offer to make space if I do buy anything else.

Not that it matters now but the Nova is enough to assure you no other taxes are due, they have been paid .

With ref to getting a V5 for an imported frame, I have a 78 Z1000 frame, with a Nova.

Given that in addition to the frame/engine numbers, photos have to be sent of the bike, would any non standard parts mean it would be refused a dating certificate?

The frame, engine and bodywork would all be standard, but I want to build it with 17inch wheels and modern forks/brakes. I don't want to do all that work only to find the bike can't be registered.

I guess the alternative is to buy standard worn out forks, wheels and swing arm, and fit them to the bike just for the required photos..?

He didn't actually have a nova certificate. I spoke to someone else about it and apparently the paperwork he had should have been sent away to get the nova certificate. I've never had anything to do with a nova so just decided it might be too much hassle. I'm not actually bothered to be honest. I'd prefer something smaller and lighter to restore.

My question was more how difficult it would be to get a date certificate for bike with modifications (i.e modern 17inch wheels/forks), built around an imported frame (which happens to have a NOVA)?
