Hi folks, just about to put my cams back in after a top end re-build. inlet cam is obvious with the number 28 in a vertical position. But the exhaust cam !!! I have the Clymer manual and it's not a lot of help :!: :!: it looks to me this could be put in 180 degrees out :?:
I'm sure when it took it apart it was at TDC on 1 and 4 and the notches on the cam ends were facing in a particular position.
If anyone can confirm that would be great. or a picture may help.
Thanks in advance.

Hopefully this pic will be self explanatory.
Number "5" indicates the timing arrow stamped on the exhaust cam sprocket which should be level ( or very close depending on deck height etc ) with the gasket surface.

Many thanks Z1015 , Christ I had to use a magnifying glass to find this little mark. Almost hiding behind the rubber damper on the cam sprocket. I did forget to mention, this is for a Z1R. don't suppose its any different. :)

remember that when you're counting pins to 28, the mark on the exhaust cam is pointing to pin ZERO not "1" . The diagram is clear but its easy to forget when you're getting down to doing it.

No different.
All the kickstart engines are basically the same Z1 motor.
