You'll need to clean out the wd40 or the liner won't stick to the metal. I use POR 15 liner.

POR 15 is the most robust liner and is resistant to ethanol. It comes with a degreaser and metal cleaner. It can also be very tricky to get right.
Are you sure you need a liner ?
It is also difficult to remove POR15 without damaging your paint work.

I lined my tank a few years ago and it still seems in perfect shape.
I put this topic on as a basic aide memoire.
Good luck.

Have done two tanks with por15. Still going strong with zero
problems years later. But you have to follow the instructions to
The letter!

From the dozens of reviews / comments on the web there seems to be 2 categories of POR15 users - those that it works for and those that it does not. Unfortunately this year I fall into the latter category when used on an S3 tank. Apart from the 70% or so of the liner that delaminated I cannot find anything that removes the remnants so you can start clean again. Nothing seems to touch it. I would agree with Adrian H and only be tempted to use a liner if you absolutely have to. The seam on mine had developed a weep so maybe I should have had it rewelded / brazed instead, but not so critical now as I have since acquired another tank.

				Kev.
That must have been a 'mare.
I agree that the reviews were mixed and I did it with an element of trepidation, tbh I went overboard with cleaning it out and then getting it dry, this may have lifted me into the lucky %.

Yes Stu it was indeed- especially as I had just had the tank painted! - and frustratingly the remedies that sound most plausible that I have seen are pretty much all going to entail sacrificing the paintwork. For the time being I shall just own it as a work of art as the paint job is great!!

Had good results removing a lining with FROSTS, 2 x 5litres of Tank STRIP ( recommended by FROSTS to remove POR15). Tank filled and left for 4 hours, drained back into can and rinsed. Repeat next day different orientation drained, rinsed, repeated from memory over 10 days. But I can’t be 100% positive it was POR15 in the tank.
