Z650 rear shocks

#1 PostAuthor: olnmfc » Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:05 pm

Im thinking of upgrading the rear shocks on my z650, which are the standard ones Im sure. They are in good condition so can keep as spares/originals but something better might be good. They are only 315mm eye to eye. Replacements online seem to range from 320 to 340mm.
The shocks on my z500 are Koni's and still good (from gray's z900) they are 345mm. So something like that maybe. I guess I could always put the Koni's on to try them.
What do folks suggest as a shock replacement for the z650, seems a lot of options! Cheers

Talk to Hagon. Eye to eye size is largely irrelevant on aftermarket shocks. A 330 e to e with an anorexic rider might compress the spring 10mm but with a pie eating bloater 40mm. As the springs are progressive the working part of the spring when riding would be very different for each rider and therefore feel very different.
Hagon will use you height and weight and the e to e spec to calculate the correct characteristics to give the best performance specific to you.

The original 330 e to e shocks were not progressive so the spring length is more critical.

Sounds great advice, albeit potentially expensive! :o

Nice one. I was going to suggest put the 500's Konis on the 650 , and vice versa , as a quick cheap temporary fix to try.

Yes I did ponder that but the 500 does benefit from them considerably so best leave as is.
