Another boring question about Z1 date codes

Iv searched high and low for all this on here and elsewhere otherwise i wouldn't ask such a re-hashed question but aside from exhaust, rotors, wheels, switches and rear brake stay and the printed codes on hubs, where are all the date codes. I have a caliper that has a date stamped into it "N2" and a front master that has "113" Aside from stamped parts i have Z1 forks that either have cast numbers on them or dont. MAybe we can start a definitive thread that outlines all stamps and cast numbers? thanks for the help in advance lads.

These are not date codes but the assembler's identifier stamp for quality purposes. When for example, your caliper was assembled, he would stamp his N2 mark as the assembler so if there was a problem they would know the guilty party.
If you were to find NOS parts for these individual items (say the caliper body which is where it is stamped), you wont see any stamp code

Ahhh thanks for that John, you seem to be in the know, so its safe to say that can be used on a 75 as much as a 73 or 74.

Yes you can.
By the way, you mentioned about fork legs with a number cast into them. This will be the number 2 I assume you are referring too? These 'number 2' forks were only found on Z1B.
The number/letter stamp by the axle mount is same as my earlier post (assemblers stamp ID)

Ah yes thats what i was wondering, so would the forks with no markings be for the 1974 so, i know the 73 had bullet shape fender mounts not flush. Speaking of the 73, I have the thin wall points cover, thats is for the 73 only right?

Only early Z1 had the 'bullet' as you say. No marked forks could be for 73 or 74.
The thin cover was on all Z1 to Z1B. They are marked -1 or -2 on the inner side. Ironically the -2 is lighter than the -1

John you know you sh1t sir, cover has a "2" under the "made in Japan", was thinking that it was lighter than any i have ever held. So one set of forks i have then are early forks.. good to know. Is there a book or reference i can get with all this, Its fascinating to know.

For fear of taking the piss with your time John, i was wondering if you can throw an eye on the pics below, while im kinda sure this is an early style 72 bullet fork lower in not certain, The seller is a big motor breakers and this is the best photos i have iv asked for better ones but no joy. I have the left side and would love to pair it up.

The one I have taken from the same angle is a bit more obvious but that maybe down to light and corrosion.

Took a gamble.. and it paid off, now a full restoration in the spring.
