Z650 float heights

#1 PostAuthor: olnmfc » Sun Jan 14, 2024 2:04 pm

Rather annoyingly the second carb from the left keeps overflowing. These carbs were fully rebuilt (by sellers). Worst when starting then settles down until you give it a rev up then just after it settles back to idle a further spurt comes out...
With new rubbers carbs came out easily and float height is about 19mm on all from top edge of carb body to top of float. Is this about right?
Ill check needles next, there was a bit of residue in each float bowl, altho tank as new.

Inverted float measurements will only give you a starting point.
You need to do a wet measurement using the clear tube method.
2 - 4mm below bowl/body mating surfaces is your target.

Clean the float needle seats using cotton buds and toothpaste. The tiniest bit of crud can stop the needle seating correctly causing wee by.

Cheers, yes, that carbs needle was stuck. All sorted now but will keep an eye on.
