Steering head lock removal

#1 PostAuthor: Scuffy1966 » Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:51 pm

Hello, I have a mongrel Z1000a2 in a LTD frame. I don't have the key for the cassette/barrel lock already fitted to the side of the steering head. I've got a replacement from Z Power but what's the best way to remove it. I'm quite capable of being an animal with a drill but am I missing the obvious

Should just pull out I think. Probably just a bit corroded in there, bit of heat to break the corrosion seal?

It will not come out unless the key is turned, so get your drill out and drill down the tumblers carefull, they are brass and will most probably snatch at the drill so go steady and do not force it, or you will end up wiv a broken twist drill to remove which will P**s you off greatly

Thanks for the info. I will now put my surgeons gloves on to operate the Makita.
