Z1000 A2 - seat stopper thingie
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction here. I'm just coming to the end of a rebuild of my A2 and bought one of those seat stopper / restrictors from Z-Power. Thought fitting would be a breeze so didn't think very hard about it until trying to put it in place the other day. I'm sure my last Zed had one, but can't remember quite how it went on. Am I missing a bracket on the seat maybe. Can anyone lend a hand and let me know how it fits please.

Those fit 650's. My thou A1 doesn't have one. Both my 650's have them.
Doesn't show it on the 1000 diagram.

my z9 doesn't have it and it's pretty similar to a z1000. Some KHs have them and I was always jealous of it.

Mk2 and H's have them. You should have a bracket on the inside of the frame by the seat hinge pin bracket and an extended bracket on the seat fixing, which the bent bit slides along and latches when the seat is at 90 degrees.... if that makes sense.

Opposite way around on 650's. Pivot on the seat and slide bracket on the frame.

Re: Z1000 A2 - seat stopper thingie
Thanks for the replies - I do have the right bracket on the frame. - the spring nicely fits within it and the longer arm of the stopper is just the right length. Its how it interacts with the seat which has got me scratching my head. I have a Giuliari 2/4 seat on it at the moment and I'm thinking that it could lack a bracket maybe??. My repro standard seat doesn't have anything else under it though.
Looking again at the parts diagrams again I have tracked it down - Number 23 shown next to the frame bracket with the spring. I must be having a senior moment, but I can't for the life of me understand how it 'stops' the seat from opening further. Anyone with an old Z1000 have a similar set up?

Re: Z1000 A2 - seat stopper thingie
What do you have on the frame? Just a hinge presumably.
If correct then the opposing bracket has a slot with a notch in it so that as you open the seat part 23 slides along the slot then clicks into the notch. To close it you need to unclick it from the notch and hinge the seat closed so part 23 slides back along the slot again.
That's how it works on a 650 but the hinge is on the seat base and the slotted bracket is on the frame. Interestingly one of my 650's also has a guillari (genuine) that does have the bracket.

Yes that's right, a sort of open box bracket that the spring nestles in and catch/support feeds through.

Yes that sounds vaguely familiar from my old KZ. It's been a while since I sold that one, but the concept seems right. Thanks for the info Warren - looks like I have something to add to the seat in that case.

Re: Z1000 A2 - seat stopper thingie
Hi men
the Z1000A1 didn't have the seat retainer, it had the same seat hinges as the Z900A4.
The Z1000A2 did have the seat retainer and had different seat hinges.
The picture above says it all, good luck with the installation!

Hi.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of variations the Japanese can come up with to do the same job. There must be a whole design department just for these.

Re: Z1000 A2 - seat stopper thingie
Thanks All - got the idea now. Its the aftermarket seat lacking a retainer bracket. I'll have to fab one up when I have the bike on the road - still fiddling with it to get a first start out of it.... but that's another story !
