Z1000 A2 fuel tap

#1 PostAuthor: skinnyZED » Tue Feb 06, 2024 9:08 pm

Hi all,
In case it helps anyone,
My Z1000 A2 vacuum tap decided to start leaking, while not much, it’s enough to make me want to go to a manual tap.
It was rebuilt about a year ago, maybe not done well enough or the parts were not great!
Easy option was pingel, but £££££££ too much
So I tried searching for a non vacuum option from eBay etc
Being an A2, it has 44mm base with 2xscrews so my choice is limited,
2 outlets on tap to 2 carb inlets.
So I contacted MadMopeds
search: z1000 Petrol Tap Petcock 44mm Non vacuum
Excellent seller was very helpful
My tap came with 2outlets, 1x straight & 1x90deg,
I bought an extra 90deg outlet to replace the straight.
I sanded down the washers to get the outlets at a angle that worked for my 2 inlets. Tap outlets are 6mm so I needed mikalor clamps on the tap end and hot water on the carb ends.
It to a bit of trial and error to get a good combination of fuel hose plus clamps
MadMopeds can supply the tap, outlets, and hose to suit.
Hopefully a picture explain better than me waffling on.
Outlet closest in image goes to carbs1-2
Cheers, Stuart

Really interesting - thanks for the info. Just rebuilt my vacuum tap but not yet got the project running. I've heard about problems with rebuild diaphragms not letting the fuel past, so will keep this option in mind

About 10 years ago I had a similar issue with the vacuum tap on my A2.
As well as complete fuel taps (which do seem very expensive) Pingel make an adapter plate that once fitted, allows use of a regular type (on off reserve) tap from an A1. So I went for that option.
Your solution looks good though- well done.

seems to work so far, 250 mile trip last weekend, no leaks,
getting good hoses is key, the tap needs 6mm ID, carbs inlets are a bit bigger.
MadMoped, (ebay seller) say their hoses are stretchy and will fit,
I used what I had to hand. being a tightwad....
cheers,
