Z1000 A2 - brake light failure switch

#1 PostAuthor: Graham-A2 » Wed Feb 07, 2024 10:16 am

Thought I'd ask here, but I think I know the answer. Does anyone know where to source a brake light failure switch - the one that fits into the loom under the tank. An internet search came up blank, are these unobtainable these days ?

I've got one last NOS one in my stash. Not keen to let it go so would want proper money for it.

Gwan Warren - you know you want to!

Seriously though, I would really appreciate it if you could bring yourself to sell. What sort of price are we talking ?

I will have a nos switch which is for the 400, part number ends in 002, does exactly the same as the 001 unit, but just a bit bigger in size.

there's a z650 one on ebay at present £25, looks to be pretty similar to my z900 one which should be the same as your z1000 one

Theres several ways of sorting this as looked into it for my own bike Z900 A4 which will use same part i believe as does Z650
1. First you could buy a NOs one like Warrens which is old but as new condition but as stated are now becoming rare.
2. You could buy a 40 year old one from elsewhere ie Ebay but after 40 or so years of being mounted under the tank with numerous hot and cold running sessions i would suspect the components may fail imminently so youd be back to square one again. Its a gamble!
3. You can make one yourself if good with a soldering iron and have electrical knowledge, parts cost about £10, theres a circuit diagram on KZ forum website only about 12 conponents needed, but obv you have to build it yourself, test it, then fit it in a small box sealed with silicone or epoxy to make watertight ( only do this after youve tested it and all working)
Pros- well its cheap, all parts are brand new so should last 40 years like original.
Cons- wont look identical to original ( but as under tsnk out of sight does that matter), relies on you doing everything as per diagram and your soldering good, if you make a mistake wont work, or maybe blow fuse etc
4. Another forum member made one for his bike and made a few more maybe he has some brand new ones still available, sorry cant remember his name but its within last 12 months try a search.
5. Do without it, whilst i suppose having a warning of bulb fail is good, its hardly a hardship to pull brake and see if rear lamp lights before riding.
Just my thoughts

Thanks all - I bit the bullet and did a deal with Warren. My soldering is pants - I've never seemed to get to grip with nice reliable tidy wiring.

Hopefully it will lead to a meet up with Warren at some stage as we've worked out that we are not too far from each other :D.

Sure we'll get to have a brew, tea or beer, at some point.
