When trying to complete the check as per manual pic below, it seems impossible to hold (by hand) the drive shaft gear in a fixed state so you can check the backlash on the output shaft gear. The DTI gauge is all over the place.
Have people successfully managed this check and what method did they use to hold one gear absolutely static, so as to isoloate/check the movement of the other gear?
