Hi all,

Have a Z1000a2 I have just got back on the road after a full rebuild. Pulled out a re-pop seat I bought a few years ago and I obviously wasn't paying attention. The one I have has the Z1 lock catch and I need to convert to the Z1000 "U-shaped" version. Has anyone done this adaption? Just pondering how to get it done, which I hope is straight forwards.

Alternatively - does anyone need a standard replica Z1 seat with the plunger type seat catch ?

There is a complete catch kit specially for this, some on ebay for about £30 and z-power also have them. Quite easy to fit just double check when marking and drilling holes, catch plate has elongated holes to adjust aligment so U catch fits in lock ok.

Most reproduction seats already have the holes present, are there 2 tapped holes either side of the Z1 latch catch?

When i did my resto on Z900 A4 the seat was stripped down and blasted then powder coated, when i came to refit, it didnt have a lock or catch just a bracket with a long bolt and wing nut arangement so knew I'd need the proper assembly, which sounds the same as yours.
I bought the full lock kit and the correct plate which comes as stated with elongated holes and a u bracket with lengthy 6mm ends so it can be adjusted up down and in and out to suit using a double nut arangement. I had to fit the lock then temp fit the seat mark up the holes then drill them m6( nuts or 3mm if using tappers) then either use captive m6 nuts or self tappers to fix plate, re fit the cover and adjust as needed.
As yours is already built its up to you if you want to risk drilling base without going too far and damaging the cover or strip it, that way its more work but wont matter if drill goes too far. Suppose it depends how good you are with a drill and how long bit is? I tend to find you can be pressing on drill to drill hole then all of a sudden it goes through which can catch you out.

Thanks all for getting back to me - The base unfortunately doesn't have predrilled holes to fit an alternative arrangement so I'll have to work out the position of the catch and get some holes drilled.
