Z1000 A1 Left Hand Switchgear

Hello all.

I'm looking for suggestions to source a new or refurbished left hand switchgear for my Z1000 A1. My switch has both a hazard switch and a headlamp flash rocker button (see picture), but the only ones I can find new have either the flasher, or the hazard switch, but not both. The alternative would be to have mine refurbished.

Any suggestions you might have to source a new one, or recommendations to get mine refurbished would be welcomed.

Hi Graham

the switch of a Z1000ST is the same if the electricity wires don't run inside the handlebar of your bike.
If they do run inside the handlebar you'll have a gap at the bottom right hand side of the lower half of the switch shell but the connections inside are the same if you have a "european" bike. The switch of a Z1000ST doesn't have the single bullet connectors of the Z1000A1/A2.
If you want to refurbish your switch, have a look at the item I've posted some time ago (technical) where I refurbish one step by step.
It's a bit of fiddling to get the buttons out but you can do it with a little effort and a lot of caution.
Take care of some switches! The plastic part of the high/low beam has a tendency of breaking at the point where the screw passes through and, as far as I know, you can't buy it seperately.
The wires of the indicator switch and of the hazard switch have a tendency of coming loose but you can solder them back on.
Even the horn/pass button can be disassembled but there are a lot of small parts involved.
Good luck!

Thanks Adrian.

The bike is a UK model, but it’s possible that somebody has installed the wrong switch earlier in its life.

The wiring diagram for A1 European model shows both hazard and passing button
US / Canadian only shows hazard switch only
A2's are the same.

Maybe they fitted whatever came to hand.

I'll look and see if I have one - I think I do.
Classic Motorcycle Mechanics did an article some time ago on refurbishing your own switchgear - cue frantic scrabbling through "The Archive" - looks like it was June and July 2023 issues

I do have one but it's tattier looking than yours - the hazard button is more faded

Thanks Gray. I’ve replaced it with one without the hazard flasher.
