Z1000st colours

#1 PostAuthor: solshep » Thu Aug 29, 2024 7:43 am

Hello, does anyone know what the dark green colour is called on the Z1000st? RS bike paint only list the luminous green but not the darker green on the sidepanels etc.
Also, are these dark green colours painted on as standard or are they decals?
Also do the red UK bikes and black US bikes have decals standard from the factory or were they painted 2 different colours?
One of my bikes looks like it's been painted and the other looks like it's got decals on it.
Any information would be very helpfull, thanks.

Hi solshep

the E1 had the following colours: Luminous green and Luminous dark red
the darker green colour was called: black green

the E2 had Luminous ruby red and Black pearl.

There's no formula known in order to mix the paint. All the paint is metallic.
If you have a body panel with the original colour, go to a paint shop and let them do their "magic" in order to get you the correct shade of colour.

Both the E1 and the E2 had only the fuel tank completely painted. The side covers, which are painted in the darker colour and the tail piece which is again painted in the lighter colour, received a decal (lighter colour with golden pinstripes for the side cover, darker colour with golden pinstripes for the tail cover).

The black pearl version is different: the fuel tank is painted black and the parts where the knees of the driver are supposed to rest is pearl grey. The side cover is painted pearl grey and the tail cover is painted black.

It's possible to buy the decal sets but I've bought one for the E2 black pearl and the decal for the side cover was grey instead of black as it should have been. So take care when buying decal sets!

There's also a slight difference in the pinstripes of the fuel tank: the E1 has a pinstripe on 3 sides of the darker paint, the E2 has pinstripes on 4 sides ( the fourth being on the underside of the dark coloured part).

I hope this information will get you a bit further on the road.

Ok so after a lot of searching etc. The painter who is painting my bikes, took an original green sidepanel to rs bike paint and they matched it and it is called Diamond Dark Green Pearl and was also used on a Z1000A2 1978 seemingly, they also have the lighter green in stock.
My painter has had all the tanks blasted etc and now finds out that the colour of red that my bike is Luminous Dark Maroon but rs bike paint do not have this colour in stock, does anyone know where my painter can buy this paint or any information on mixing it to hand on to him, if he had taken the panels to rs bike paint before blasting and prep then they could have matched it. Maybe if someone had an old broken sidepanel or tailpiece that they don't need then they could maybe send it to me or my painter, we could take it to get it matched, and I would pay the postage of course.
Any help would be appreciated.
