Hi everybody. I'm having great difficulty removing the cam followers from the head. Is there a knack to this or is it always a pig to get them out.
They do rotate , but only when tapped with ground down screwdriver. I've tried using a strong magnet on the top, but I don't seem to be able to generate any upward movement.
I'm hoping that someone here has a pearl of wisdom which might assist me.

I've tended to use a strong magnet together with a twisting motion to get them out. They're a close fit in the head and ,together with the oil film, can be a bugger to pull against the suction.

Like Mike, magnet and rotational movement should shift em.
Guess as the cams are out compressed air down the oil galley exit in the shells may assist but get ready to catch them.

Just a big thank you to all for your assistance. I bought a 25mm Neodymium fishing magnet off Amazon (capable of lifting 9Kg) and with the help of some compressed air down the oil gallery. I manage to get them out. I've never come across such stubborn buckets before especially the exhaust ones. Is this common on the Z1000 or have I got a problem?

It's not uncommon, especially if the bike has been running very hot in the past or they are gummed up with oil varnish due to a long period of inactivity.
Polishing the bores with solvol etc can help ease them up if you really think they are too tight .
