Hi all
I'm looking into fitting a more modern callipers to the front of my Z1b. I know I will have to make up an adapter plate to suit, but I don't know which calipers work well / fit the 7mm thick discs and clear the spokes. so please let me know that callipers you used if you have gone down the same route. Cheers Glenn

Link to article Z1b brake upgrade I had saved - suggesting EX500 or ZX6 calipers + a picture of the adaptor plate you'd need.

It looks like ZX6 calipers have pistons on both side which to me would not give the clearance for the spokes and im struggling to find a pair of ZX750 F calipers which are the same as EX500 one. They have pistons on one side only which to me would be better. so does anybody on this site have a pair? Cheers Glenn

ZX750F a.k.a. Gpx750 - lots of front callipers for sale on ebay. This calliper is also used on a range of other Kawasakis of the same period. I used the callipers from a ZX10 when I did a similar conversion on a Z1000 but the callipers are more or less a standard item for Kawasakis from '89 onward.
These callipers make a great set up by the way and will be all the brake you need on a big Zed with skinny tyres !

Hi, this is the caliper off my 93 Zephyr 750, looks similar to the one
In the attachment. As previously mentioned they were used in many 80s/90s bikes.
I bit the bullet and bought new from Cradley a few years ago. Glad I did, no messing with worn old calipers and they bled up straight away.
The second photo is one I screenshot where someone had used EBC discs on their Z. I haven't looked any further into this as yet, but is something I'm considering. Photo also shows the Harrison calipers which are also an option (expensive when I last looked a couple of years ago)
Cheers
Paul
