Morning Guys, yes i know its been a while, but to be honest its been so called in winter have neglected my baby( Z900) until now.
So before the cold spell i was having trouble with my clutch sticking so bought all new clutch plates, springs, cable and push rod and ball bearing. I also fully drained the oil, replaced the filter and bought new oil ready to go into the bike. I also removed plugs and squirted small amount oil down bores then plugged holes up, bikes bn in a dry garage, with a blanket and nylon cover so well protected. The carbs were also fully stripped as was still running rough, turned out prev owner had fitted new tank to carb hoses but not used correct stuff, resulting in small bits of the hose clogging carb jets, all now sorted, new hoses, all carbs stripped rebuilt and ultrasonically cleaned ready for re fitment.
Anyway weather better, new enthusiasm and riding days just around the corner so time to get it back on the road.
Quick question do i need to soak the new plates in oil before fitment or once on bike with cover plate on will be submerged anyway, thought best check.
Thanks

I’d soak them in oil for sure.

The clutch was terrible on my A4 - found the wrong springs had been put in previously. Replaced them and also fitted new plates (soaked in oil overnight) - superb now :up :)

Thanks for reply, yes soaked mine overnight too, re fitted all cases and filled with new oil and filter, also as prev stated new ball bearing and pushrid too so hoping thats made a big difference. Incidentallt i notice the 5mm difference in spring length, which are the original the 35mm or the 40mm?
The only thing yet to sort is the cable the one originally on it was too long, so had to re route to opposite chassis leg then across casing at bottom fitted a central support bracket and looked ok, but assumed was fitted prev with high rise bars in US. So ordered new cable for standard bars now it still wont fit as its too short on full lock. Tried numerous routes but cable def too short. So i either risk yet another cable or re fit original back. Seems 1 too long the others too short, how many types of bars were fitted to Z900?

Ive had issues with the clutch basket wearing where the plates fret on the ally. I cleaned it up with a needle file and all sorted. Good luck.
