I read in a recent post regarding compression that a product called 'Sea foam' was mentioned for potentially 'sticky' rings.
What is this stuff please and how is it supposed to work.
I will say i have checked all the other obvious things

Hello Simon the only sea foam iv'e seen is a fuel stabiliser unless you can pour it down the bores neat and that frees them i think you can buy it on amazon.

Marvel Mystery Oil works very very well for releasing piston rings.

I have used it with success on numerous bikes in the past.

It depends how "stuck" they are.
Remove spark plugs.
Pour the MMO into each cylinder (use a syringe or pipe with a funnel)
Leave at least 24 hours to soak through.
Alternatively you can add it to petrol if bike is running.

I bought a Z1300 engine that had not been run for years and had no spark plugs fitted.
Needed to get the block off but 2 of the pistons and rings were stuck solid.
I used MMO and after a few days it did the trick.

Tried seafoam in my MR2 did nothing.

Is the reason for this initial post due to low compression or seized piston? Has it been stood inactive for a while?
Does it start?
If it starts and runs ,ride it and once warm wind the revs up from time to time.
When I bought my ST that hadn't run for over 10 years it smoked like buggery and you could smell the oil burning. I ran it. It cleared everything out. It doesn't smoke or smell now.
If you've got a stuck piston I'd stick some diesel, not a lot, down the pot until free. Then once free and starts, run and ride it

I've got low compression on one cylinder.
The bike was sold to me as a semi runner on the understanding that the carbs needed cleaning as it had stood for a long time. I also had to take the rocker box off as one of the end plugs was leaking so while the carbs were in the ultrasonic bath i did a compression check and found No3 to have 30psi compression. I figure it's either a stuck ring or a bent valve and thought i would try for the stuck ring first. I can say that i have turned the motor over with the rocker box off and can see the valves on No3 opening and closing but i do realize this is not a true indication of wether a valve is bent or not. The sea foam has been in it a couple of days now so i will try another compression test today to see if there is any change

Further to my previous post on Sea Foam it's been sat in the cylinder for a few day and today i did another compression check and it seems there was a stuck ring and the Sea Foam has freed it off. Compression is now 135 on that cylinder which is an improvement of 100psi. I'll take that
