Hi Everyone

I'm looking for help regarding the key for the seat lock on my '78 KZ 1000 A2. I bought the bike at auction earlier this year and it came with 2 keys. 1 of these fits the ignition barrel and the other fits the steering lock. Both keys will slide into the barrel for the seat lock but neither will operate it. The seat lock has a reference L29 stamped on it, but key cutters like Arun locks don't recognise this number. Having a look at other available locks (without keys) on eBay, they seem to show different numbers. I've tried without success to remove the barrel from the seat lock to see if there is a different number on it.

So my questions are
firstly, would the key for the ignition or steering lock originally have fitted the seat lock?.
Secondly, does the L29 reference relate to a specific key?
And thirdly, if I persist with removing the barrel from the seat lock will I have joy in finding a relevant number.

If anyone has a spare working lock with a key that they'd be willing to sell, please let me know.

Cheers

Andy

Why not just take it to a Locksmiths and he will cut you a key

I use Harolds Locksmiths in Sheffield im sure if you spoke to them you could then post it or Lincoln Locksmiths

Try your local kawasaki dealer there will only be so many different keys maybe that number can identify the lock

My A1 always had two keys. It came into the family when it was a year old so I guess that’s what it was like from the factory. The seat and ignition are different I can’t remember which one opens the petrol cap it’s not on the bike anymore but is still in a drawer but I can check I think the ignition does the cap.

I assume your lock looks like this one below. If so, you should have the key number on the end of the barrel as seen in this part. Also, what key numbers do you currently have?
