air intakes

i have fitted a usa style cylinder head to my gpz1100 turbo. it has the reed valve air intake on i was going to leave it on with a air scoop facing forward. my thinking was that a bit of cold air around the exhaust valve and pipe could not hurt. the bike is now ready for donno but sounds like a diesel taxi with these ports open. has anybody any ideas how i can keep them open without the horrible sound? or will the cold air give me more bother than it is worth

I'm not too sure, but i thought these reed valve things were a USA mod to help reduce emissions and are usually blanked off, not left open? Perhaps one of the other more enlightened members can give you some more solid info!

most of the drag-racers eliminate those darned things...

...one fix is to reverse the reed-valves and bolt the covers back down - effectively blocking the ports.

Leaving them open without blanking plates or the original emissions kit is basically similar to having exhaust leaks around the manifold clamps/ exhaust ports, hence the row its making. You can either replace the cam cover for a uk spec one or if I remember Debben sell some APE blanking plates.

you can't just replace the cam cover - if you do, it'll leave the ports open and they be shooting flame out under the tank....

But Jeff, he can replace the cam cover for a Uk version which won't have any of the emisssions rubbish and will blank the holes when fitted. Had to do this with a Cali import Gpz1100b2 I had.
