What is the recommended running in mileage for running in the pistons.

Also, what is recommended main jet sizes?
Gas flowed head,
Standard cams at present. Intend to fit a set of Kent cams, once engine run in.
28mm Smoothbores.
Harris 4 into 1.
K&N Air filter in standard air box.

Adrian....

You'll get loads of different answers to this one....... Use plain mineral oil NOT SYNTHETIC or SEMI-SYN

Run carefully for 50 miles - re torque head....... then again at 250 miles.

LIGHT THROTTLE UP & DOWN REV RANGE... More important not to LOAD engine than over revving :!:

Should be OK at 500 miles..... re torque head & use decent oil & gradually wind her up over next few outings

My Z1000 is similar... 1075 Wiseco, Dyna 2000, Gas flowed, think they're std cams?.... RFS 36 Mikuni's... 140 mains with K&N and V&H 4:1.
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Run engine until hot, change the oil, re-torque the head. This is done at 0 miles on the initial start up. This is the important oil change as it gets rid of the bits from the engine build.
As Piggy says, mineral, the cheaper the better for initial start up as it's not going to stop in long. Re-torque head at 250 miles.
As to running in the arguments open on that, there is one school of thought that it should be done carefully and there is one that says that it is not the revs and load at which you run in as these help the rings to seal to the bores but the heat generated that needs controlling. By 500 miles you should be using the full rev range ie up to 9K

28mm s/bores?

1075, 390 cams, VM29 sbores, K&Ns, race 4-1:
125 mains, 17.5 pilots, 3/8 turn out on airscrew, 5DL needles on 3 (std) fuel heights set 3 - 4mm down from body base.

if it's running ok run it in put the cams in then get it set up on a dyno don't waste your time changing this and moving that in the hope that you might get it right.
