Well took it out this morning and for about quater mile all was well then it all started again misfiring, spluttering, and now something new backfiring just turned round went home and pushed it in the garage, guess yorkies off the to do list this year.

sounds electrical to me

if i had to guess going by what you have told me maybe a coil going south . does she die all together or feel like shes on two by any chance ? if not that check the tap filter bowl . might be filled with yuck not allowing the free flow of fuel .

Try the WD40 on the rubbers again. My ST was okay untill it got warm. You'll just have to keep trying untill you find the problem. Just resit the temptation to start changing things. Its expensive and rarely gives good results.

I agree, because it's intermittant I reckon you may have some arcing from a live somewhere in the ignition wiring or from the coils/leads/caps, especially when you mentioned the little jolt in the rain. I know your head must be wrecked with it at this stage, I really hope you do get it sorted soon, just take all hammers and blunt objects out of the garage before going at it again

If it`s giving you a belt then it must be HT not LT.

Coils, leads, caps. Tank off........spray with water and see what happens.

try running it with tank off ,but in the dark.pitch black,then check for the ht leads for tracking.

I had a similar sounding thing on mine. the problem turned out to be a coil that started to play up once warm. The backfiring was due to a build up of fuel when the coil wasn't firing which ignited. I changed the coil problem solved. Hope this is of some help and you get sorted.Dave

I have 2 good coils and leads you can borrow if you want, elimnate that prob, and if needed keep until you get new ones .pm me youre add,

Is that 1/4 mile actually 1/4 mile?

Did you warm it up before setting off?

When did you turn the choke off?

As I said before... sounds electix to me... dodgy coil most probs... or connection

Tried another set of coils today and were alright for a while but its gone again realy dont know what else to do

Are you running points Mikey if so it maybe one of the condensors is breaking down under load.
