No problem that you left as things got quiet tlc. Press-wise, I spoke with a journo who contributes to MCN and Practical Sportsbikes, but it was quite late in the day. Hopefully he'd been there a while.

To be fair to James May, he had just popped in for a cup of tea and didn't know there had been a Kawasaki thing on. And he had no problem speaking to a pleb like me - some of these celeb types wouldn't give you the steam off their s---e.

James was there on a yellow Ducati 750SS 90s era. He looked to be riding very carefully when he rode away, so I guess he doesn't get out on it much

Great day out, had a fairly cold but sunny ride up, which was preferable to the hail stones & assorted shite on the way home.

I came home with a right minger!

That would be nice when its finished :D
Its either a latter model with in A1 colour or an A1 with latter brakes and forks, either way a little bit of black paint on the hangers makes a whole load of difference :P

It had later model instuments as well, so A7 I guess. There was an ELR there, but it got there a lot later in the day. The Kawasaki boys have got more pictures to post as yet on their facebook page.

OK, this is what Kawasaki's opinion of our efforts is. Modesty almost dictated that I edit some of it out, but I'm reproducing it here exactly as it was sent to me. Please note first and last paragraphs. Well done everyone.

Despite the best efforts of the weather in the week running up to the event – and the fact that a few dozen people were running around London on Sunday – the Ace Cafe Kawasaki day was a resounding success, due in no small part to the efforts of the Z1 Owners Club.

In the weeks preceding the event, I have been somewhat diverted by an international Z1 fortieth celebration but keeping me “on trackâ€￾ and ensuring my “eye was on the ballâ€￾ was close Z ally, Ted Aves who deserves a medal for all the effort he put into the Z celebration at the Ace.

Meeting with Mark Wilsmore late last week was the final part of the jig-saw and come Sunday morning there was actually blue sky over the A406 and even at 08.00 am when we starting setting up the display the first few Kawasaki’s were arriving in the parking area.

With Ted’s green and yellow Z1 (which he still insists is not very clean or perfect!) on a work bench; and with banners and mini marquees in place the stand soon filled with fellow club members and old Z hands ready to remake acquaintances.

As a focal point for the event, the Z40 display did admirably well – so much so that it even attracted the attentions of Top Gear presenter, James May who came to see “what all the fuss was aboutâ€￾… l wonder if he knows that Richard Hammond has two Kawasaki’s !

With a steady ebb and flow of Zeds across the day the interest in the display was maintained across seven hours and those who gave of their time were fed and watered at regular intervals to avoid any murmurings of mutiny. All in all a wonderful day, not a drop of rain until late afternoon and a worthy celebration of all things Zed.

Thanks of course are due to the indomitable Ted Aves and to Nosher903, ac/dc, tlc, becker, uk kev, chrisu and others too numerous (or shy) to mention. Gentlemen I take my lime green hat off to you.

I understand from a conversation i had recently with someone that you (Ted) have been working on this for a few months.
Really well done and to those that turned up and helped as well.
I didnt make it and wished that i had.

Are there any plans to follow through with other events during the course of the year???

Superhuman effort by one of our club reps with much work behind the scenes.

But that goes for all the reps. Much of the preliminaries are not seen by those of us that turn up on the day.
