This is Darin from Classic Bike Trackdays - you might remember we had a quick chat at Stafford last October (!) about our classic track weekend at Cadwell Park, and that I'd send you an email inviting the Z1OC along to the 2014 events when I knew the dates etc.



It's taken an eternity, but the Cadwell Park events are now finally sorted and will be part of a very special 3 day festival celebrating Cadwell's 80th Anniversary;

•Friday 1st August: Classic Bike Burn Up, lunchtime Club Parade on track for club members to experience a couple of slow laps!
•Saturday 2nd August: Practical Sportbikes trackday, special lunchtime demos of some very special bikes
•Sunday 3rd August: Race day with Auto66 featuring 'King Of Cadwell" with a celebrity grid on some celebrity machines!









Rob & I would like to invite you and the Z1OC to come along and be a part of the events. There's already a few Z1OC members booked in (Zorded, Pluto, Brian1100) but everyone's welcome just to come along and chill if they don't want to go on track. Here's a bit more info . . .



Friday 1st August: Classic Bike Burn Up:

The Burn Up kicks off an awesome 3 days of motorcycling at Cadwell Park's 80th Anniversary weekend celebrations……
•Track open for 11 hours until 8pm
•All bikes pre-1995 are eligible
•6 sessions for each group; Fast/Race, Superbike, British/European, Pocket Rocket, Novice
•105dBA
•Free professional tuition, tyre support from Continental, onsite mechanic, on-track insurance available from Pace Ward
•Free camping on Thursday & Friday night for you +1
•Club Parade during the lunchbreak for up to 40 bikes. Priority to club members not booked into the trackdays (FOC) - just register name & bike with us asap

Saturday 2nd August: Practical Sportsbikes trackday:

The now infamous PS trackday carries on where the Burn Up left off, with not only another full day on track with some stunning machines as well as the PS readers unique 'Build Off' creations!
•All bikes pre-1995 are eligible
•5 sessions for each group; Superbike/Fast, British/European, Pocket Rocket, Novice
•105dBA
•Free professional tuition, tyre support from Continental, onsite mechanic, on-track insurance available from Pace Ward
•Free camping on Friday night for you +1
•80th Anniversary demos on track during lunchbreak & displays in the paddock
•£139

Clubs, Spectators & Camping:

You don't have to ride on track of course - everyone is welcome to come along and spectate, even have a club display of bikes and stay over for Friday evening to watch the band, have a few beers, a BBQ and camp.

Camping is free for Burn Up and PS trackday riders +1 and will be given a camping wristband when they enter the circuit. Cadwell will charge £10pp for additional people in the same party or separate spectators wanting to stay over.



Friday Night is Party Night!


Kick back and chill out is the order of Friday night! Back by popular demand the now legendary Hi Rollers who will be keeping everyone entertained whilst the Clubhouse & Bar will be a blur of activity from 6pm with beers and tall stories of how quick you were earlier that day… or not! The restaurant will be open if you need to sit down and rest some old bones after a hectic day on track , or you can fire up the BBQ in the paddock or camping areas . . . you'll still hear the band! Obviously go easy on the fizzy stuff if you're riding on Saturday, but if not you can have a lie in and wake up to the sound of old bikes on track, have a fry-up in the restaurant and enjoy having a day chilling out in the paddock and looking at more amazing machinery and some real exotica, and maybe trip over a famous face or two!

I'm booked Friday and Saturday. Not sure what bike/s I am taking though. The GPz is best for track but not sure the Racefit pipe will be less than 105db. Might be a first outing for the Z900.

I think there are about six or seven of us in total dues to be riding both the Friday and Saturday on our zeds.
Not sure whats happening Sunday but doubt if i will last till then myself.

Cant wait it should be the highlight of my year of track activity and a chance to catch up with a few people too.

What a superb weekend! Great to meet up with Al, various Robs etc. Particular thanks to Brian for all his pushing especially the bit up the mountain when the Z900 decided to turn it's ignition to total loss and drain the battery. What a fabulous circuit and wonderful to ride around. Frustrated that I was blown away on the straights by Rob Weed and Al due to carb set up issues not allowing to pull cleanly on full throttle. Not something I had been able to check on the bypass before the event.

Rob and Darin of Classic Bike Trackdays want to make next years event bigger and more of a classic spectacle and not just a track day. They are very keen to see a bigger Z1OC presence in the form of static display in the paddock. I think it would be a great place to show off some more of the superb bikes that we have.

Very much agree it doesn't get any better than that as far as i am concerned.
Met so many people including many Z1OC members and talked to many people about many many things. Brilliant.
Martin dont be too hard on yourself, for a second only trackday you and Dave (Pluto) did really really well. The fact that my bike doesnt rev past 6000 RPM has no bearing on the speed of youre bike Glad we got it running though as it was brilliant to see it on the track.

Special mention to;
Dave (pluto) for his first day on circuit which went really well and following him showed that there is real potential there, certainly much quicker than my first few days out on track anyway.

Brian 1100 in the fast / race group /superbikes, showing pretty much everyone a clean pair of heels, pushing the Z communities' bikes all over the place and winning a set of tyres and a feature in the forthcoming; 'Impractical Psychopaths Magazine' for riding beyond the design specifications of 30 year old bikes on cycle tyres

Classicbiketrackdays (Rob# 5 and Darin) for waiting on us hand and foot for every need, whim and want, tirelessly and cheerfully. Thank you to both and the great team of helpers and marshalls etc. etc.
I dont think it is any co-incidence that the atmosphere of the event ( even those people not under they're control ) the Cadwell staff) and participants is of a helpful friendly and co-operative nature, is due to their approach and management style. Well done to them, 'you got it right yet again'

KWAKERZ1 for advice, information and taking the 'rev limited' J out in a rain storm for an assessment.

Good to see Rob#7 ZED1015, Rob #12 (GPZ 750 that goes like an 1170 ) Marlin (honorary Rob # 32) and Linda (honorary Rob # 33) and a few more besides.

Last but not least our neighbour; Rob with the OWO1 and RC30 (VJMC member in Oxford) who gave up his ride on Saturday so that Rob W #21 could go out for some sessions on Saturday. What a gent.

Might be a bit of video along at some point but didnt have time for any pics myself.
Couldn't stay any longer as got a monsoon on the stroke of the last hour of our two days and with sopping wet everything we were ejected from the paddock for the next event so f87ked off home.

Given the anti climax after the last 2 days of fun I thought I would retire to the garage for a bit of fettling. I've had no end of problems with the fuelling on the Moto Martin so a couple of weeks ago I swapped the carbs to RS36 off my ELR. Moto Martin now cured and sat on the shelf were a pair of CR35 ex of Team Glam. They were fitted to 1260cc P&M.

Given I had nothing better to do today I swapped them on to the Z900 which also is 1260cc just to see what happened. Difference is amazing. It still a little fluffy at the bottom end but pick up is much improved and it now lifts it's front wheel without the aid of the Mountain. Biggest improvement is top end. Round the empty bypass this morning it was happily running full throttle in top gear and just keeps pulling to the point where I ran out of balls.

Watch out Zorded and Robw - you wont leave me quite so easily now! Oh how i wish I had them fitted for the last couple of days.

Great weekend. Laid back atmosphere for a track day, wonderful bike candy.
Thanks to the organizers. Great that there are guys out there that have a passion for older bikers.
Thanks to my personal trainers Martin and Rob W: I'd never before thought of pushing old bikes as a work out. Special thanks to my chauffeur Zorded with who (whom?) I shared a van.
My Z1100R never let me down. She wobbled a fair during high speed direction changes. Could have that I jacked the back up too much or perhaps she was shaking with excitement!

Al (Zorded) borrowed my Gopro. I'll let him point at who is who as I was in a different group. If it doesn't work I'll try again tomorrow.

Well done Al , that's exactly the way the organisers would like you to do it .
Couple of laps to get bike ans rider warmed up and then give it some stick .
No stuffing it up the inside and scaring them and yourself .
It was clear that the LC was firmly in your sights

Many thanks Brian (real name; Rob) for doing the work to sort out the video.
I wanted to film as many members as i could so stayed with Pluto 'till half distance to get a feel for his riding and give him some sort of view of his situation and went after Martin, Rob W and Phil Le Brocq on his behemoth CBX who i thought were just up ahead but ran out of session time.

Geoff youre dead right the novice group has many people who have not ridden there before and a good number who have never done a track day either.
I know what it was like and tried not to upset anyone because ten days ago i was in they're position and it is really intimidating to have people passing you when you are trying to concentrate on doing the right thing.

Brian, please post up a video of the fast / race / superbike group so that we can see how its really supposed to look.
Lets see what earned you those tyres and the pin-up / centrefold slot in 'Practically Certifiable' magazine

brilliant weekend , finished work 7 saturday morning , home shave , shower , linda drove down , had a hours sleep on the way down , met up with kwak z1, zorded , brian 1100 , rob w , phil ( cbx 1000 big respect ) , few didnt go that said they were going . some real trick bikes out sat sunday, nice to meet up with everybody we met up with , cheers martin linda

Al, uploaded your second video but then realised that I had processed the wrong file and ended up with two identical ones on there. Will try again later in the week.
