If the vehicle is 1978 or older.
Fill in the taxation class of section seven of the V5 with "Historic Vehicle"
Fill in form V112 declaration of MOT exemption giving category "R" as the reason.
Got to post office that issues tax and hand it all over and they will do the rest and send it to DVLA..
Strictly speaking you can only do this when it is time to re-tax the vehicle (or as soon as you get the V11 tax reminder) but you will not be charged for the tax renewal.
Once done all subsequent renewals and MOT declarations can be done online.

Whoohoo, get in there, but still, unlike a 4 wheel vehicle, will love and care for my Z1R, or should that be make do and mend & make functional? You can still buy new stuff, as we all do, but more second hand and refurb is more the norm :D for me, if its made by the big K, i'm more than happy, can't bring myself to buy that Aoshima custom model kit, I'd want to build a replica to ride hoho, but there is a Nice Revell model kit on ebay at the mo but £75 plus del :)

Took my V5 to the PO this morning, UK bike registered 9/78. PO computer say No, not old enough. Phoned DVLA and they said it is Old enough and go to another PO instead. :?:

Just got back from the post office after sorting out a pile of Historic Tax and MOT's

the chap at my post office said they did not need the V112 form , I had to ask then tell him, as I taken the time to a Print and fill them in for each bike and staple together with the filled in V5C,that he may as well send them off and that way I have done as required.

I never know who's right or wrong with this stuff, but if they have the form and don't want it its not my problem

How do you go about applying for the free MOT bit when the bike is already on Historic status. Just noticed it showing my Z1B mot ran out 2 weeks ago ! ?

If I've read this correctly, MOT exemption is automatic if your bike is now in the 'historic' taxation class.

That's what I thought until I went onto www.check-mot.service.gov.uk. It came up in big red box telling me I could be subject to a 1000 quid fine !

"This vehicle's MOT has expired
You can be fined up to £1000 for driving without a valid MOT
This vehicle may be MOT exempt, for more information refer to MOT exemption guidance"
