H shakedown run

#1 PostAuthor: chrisu » Tue May 12, 2015 6:02 pm

ok - having just bought this and knowing jonathan hadn't put many miles on it since he bought it (due to being such a jetsetter) I went for a quick shakedown spin today to see whats what.

Firstly it starts and runs beautifully. Lovely engine. Also has a nice original patina to it and has all the no7 bolts etc for those who like that sort of thing. Restored it has not been.

Brakes - hmm - needs a bit of fettling. Back was sticking - now fixed and front is a bit 'pull and hope' - new fluids for certain and probably new pads. I did use brake cleaner on it and a load of black stuff came off so it may be better than it was but the single disc on my Z1 is better at the moment.

I thought the tyres were tramlining a bit which made me go check the date of manufacture.

Hmm - 1st week of February 1999. I think I'll be ordering a new set.

still bike looks and runs a treat - should give me the incentive to get the other H on the road.

Bike looks great chris, sounds like after a bit of fettling it will be spot on.
Tyres. Im using bridgestones on my mk2 and avon roadriders on my st, both of these are worth considreing, but I like the tread pattern on the avons more.

Just put a set of Avon AM26 Roadriders on my Mark II & they feel really good - compared to the BT45's - a better looking tyre, more up to date technically & better value for money - job done!
