Yes i did get it from Dave Orritt.

It looks better in the pics than in the flesh but is very original having the correct exhaust, kickstarter under the seat and short stemmed main stand. Goes well, with history from 1992 when it came into the UK but has 40 year old "patina" cosmetically.

I'm going to give it a thorough clean and check over, refurb the brakes as it hasn't been used much in the last couple of years, make sure everythings safe then riding it as is.

Well that's the plan.....

For those who own a Z1R, how do you get it on the main stand with the stubby side extension ? I've used all my strength and couldn't get it up (ooh err missus)

Well done Steve on bagging that one - I was tempted having read the magazine article it was featured in.

I'll look forward to seeing it at Pinewood or on one of the BHS meets next year.

As for the centre stand, try not using your own strength but rolling the bike back a little and using its own weight/momentum and giving it a helping hand/heave with the grab rail.

brute strength an ignorance mostly:- place stand on floor with left leg on stoopid stub place right hand on grab handle, left on bars with full LH lock, slight bend in left leg on stand, then simultaneously lift with right hand straighten left leg and pull back on bars, sit down for five minits ....... dont use your right leg cos the whole feckin thing goes off balance and falls away from you and once it start to fall the only thing you can do is slow it down and hope

Nice bike - I have owned one for a while now and I can safely say I they are a great ride.

The pivot point on the stand is slightly too far to the rear of the bike - so you are pulling on the weight of the engine.

To make things easier :
If you park on a slight incline - (front of the bike pointing uphill!) when you pull it onto the stand the weight of the bike works with you.

For ease of parking at home - if you use a small wooden block - say about an inch high - to reverse the rear wheel on to - then you will find it drops on to the stand a lot easier and you can simply pull backwards without having to lift the weight at the same time.

Or maybe you should just work out more!!!

Junk the centre stand and buy a paddock stand!

I have used this method and managed to get it up !!

Couple of questions for the Z1R aficionados:

Is there a service manual you can download or purchase that covers the Z1R ?

Has anyone got a photo of the battery box complete with the "battery box plate " (pt no. 13169-1077) in place. It's missing on this one and I can't make out where it fits ( or where to get one ).?

Still investigating the differences on this bike to the Z1's .....quite a few dedicated bits for this model it seems .

part no 99931-540-02 service manual covers the Z1R in a supplement at the back.

Thanks Keith, it's part 16 on the diagram but part number 17 in the parts list ? I can't make out where it goes and if I really need one. I've seen very pieces for sale with slightly different part numbers for other Z1000 variants but not sure if they are the same.?

Do you have an underseat photo of your Z1r to post ?

sits across the top of the engine mounts 24 25 there should be a captive nut on each side for it bolt too
