Z1R - Piggy's Revenge!

#1 PostAuthor: Pigford » Thu Dec 28, 2017 1:32 pm

As most of you know by now I was lucky enuff to acquire the gorgeous modded Z1R off "Fred the Zed" a couple months back.

So far I've only had chance to do around 100 miles which has lead to some minor fiddling - adjusting levers & controls to suit, etc.

But today, having bought the Bull Dock screen off Fred, I decided to fit it in place of the standard one:

It may not be as practical (get a car!) but it compliments the Bull Dock tail section in my eyes.
Part of the deal included various spares & extras, such as a new oil cooler system which I shall be fitting in coming weeks, also loads of the standard parts (brakes, tail, s/arm etc)!

Happy New year to you all xxx

Looking good Mark!

Be nice to see a side on shot sometime so we can appreciate the whole picture?

Hi Mr Pigford

if you decide to sell the original Z1R windscreen, I'm a candidate! I'm searching one to mount on the Z1000ST-R.
Just in case...

Looks good Mark, I'm guessing you could also fix a tonneau to those studs if you ever wished to.

Happy New Year and let's hope 2018 is a good year for us all.

Cheers

Not selling original screen - bike has most parts to return to standard if ever wanted.

I have ordered some nice black plastic screen bolts

Will get better photo's after oil cooler is fitted.

Nice TT500 in the background, finished restoring one back in the summer and I'm ashamed to say I haven't ridden it yet!

Love the TT!

I picked up a fine and 3 points for wheelying along the A325 through Farnborough in the late 70's on a XT, great bike!

Looks great.

The idea behind the PMC extended tail, the Bulldock tail tidy, the Tarozzi rearsets, and fitting lower handlebars was to make the mighty Z1R look longer and leaner. The Bulldock screen adds to that look by lowering the overall height of the front, balancing the front and rear. The new screen bolts are definitely an improvement. Aesthetically, a good result. Well done Mark.

I just noticed that you've fitted the oil cooler too. Very neat. So neat in fact I didn't notice it until I had a second look.

Good work Mark

Looks good on both points. I must say I like that better than the stock item...

My view for what it's worth -
The mirrors do not go with that screen - they need to be lower (as in the 1st of Fred the zed's pics ) or of the type that fix through the side of the fairing (although that would spoil the fairing!)
and the screen screws should be black.

If going for minimalist look I would fit different (smaller & clear lens) indicators which are less obtrusive.
I did this to mine about 3 years ago & kept them on because I prefer the appearance.
Looks like the brake mod should improve things over standard at the front end.
Looks pretty good!

Agree mirrors are too big - I don’t usually do mirrors as they spoil the lines on any bike...
but will leave them be for now.
As for clear lense indicators ! No thanx never liked them, don’t suit classic bikes.
Just need to plumb in Oil Cooler now!
