Only had a few hours in the workshop today as my back is a bit chronic...

Tapered bearings are going in as they are much better then balls.
Using the 'Kendo' bearing puller to fit the bearing seat into the headstock.
Image

Bottom bearing race fitted - still needs to be greased before final assembly.
Image

All greased up, fitted and nipped up - feels nice
Image

Top clamp cleaned up and refitted
Image

With a fair wind my carbs might be ready to pick up from the vapour blasters!

Not done much over the last week or so as my backs still been playing up. Then I went riding around Scotland for a long weekend (Just to sort my back out of course....)

Anyway, picked my carbs up and they now look too new to use on the bike...
So I'm going to put on another set of carbs or bodies.. :oops

Oh and I left my cam cover at the blasters so waiting for that to be posted back...
:eek

Got quite a bit done in between doing carb rebuilds for people. So here's an update.

Cleaned up cam cover.
Image

Cleaned up cam cover in situ. Looks a bit too shiny, but I think it will look OK once the tank is on.
Image

Front caliper has been stripped and cleaned, the slider bolts greased and replacement brake pads fitted.
Decided that the lacquer finish on the fork legs is still acceptable and thus not needing to be polished. Just gave them a good clean up.
Image

Rear light wiring put back as closely as I could get it to how it left the factory.
notice how clean the bullet connectors are now!
Image

I wasn't happy with the finish on the original carb bodies so I am using another low mileage set that I have available.
All stripped and ready to be cleaned
Image

Float bowl screw were super seized and I had to use brute force to remove them. Good job I have spares...
Image

Rebuilding..
Image

Nearly there..
Image

Done, except carb tops
Image

Looking good.
Image

Actually, one carb top was damaged so found a replacement
Image

Including replacment
Image

All done, including float heights and throttle heights
Image

Refurburbished carbs temporarily fitted with pod filters, so we can check there are no issues. Once confirmed, we will refit them with the original airbox
Image

Cleaning up the ducktail
Image

Pretty decent finish with a a bit of polish and very mild rubbing compund
Image

Ducktail fitted
Image

Document tray
Image

KZ900 side panel badges to be replaced by Z900 ones
Image

Drelling off the retaining clips. One slip and I'm doomed!
Image

New z900 badges in place or the original KZ ones
Image

YaY!
Although the white letter is a little whiter than the tank badges...
Image

Seat base was given a quick polish - it's in A1 condition
Image

Tank polished up reasonably well
Image

Shiny!
Image

Now that's a badge to be proud of!
But I suspect that maybe they have been replaced as they look too new (look at the screws)
Image

Hoping to get the new tubes and tyres fitted tomorrow.
Then it's on with exhausts and we're ready to fire her up!

Progress has been slow of late as customer work seems to keep getting in the way..
Anyway, bike is MOTd and I just need to refit the carbs and some other bits n bobs.
Also, it has just started to leak a bit of oil from the generator grommet when on the side stand so I'll need to sort that too.
Will post an update soon, but in the meantime, I have more recent photos on my FB page.

Been somewhat busy of late and no progress. But I will get the carbs refitted this week and I am taking the bike down to the Stafford show to display of my stand.
In thee meantime, I have applied for a VJMC dating certificate, even though I have a title. I want to ensure my V5 application is accepted first time.
