been looking at this one for sale for some time and kicked my self when it went for £1600
only to find it was not back up the next week so i stuck a bid in and waited, then the there was a ping on my phone saying I had been successful with a win did not think much off it then i looked and saw it was the Z1000ST

I think I got it a OK price the paint it is not good but that can be sorted and done properly later, it wont rust away for now, the seat well what can I say :no the V5C says its been here since new but could it be a gray import in 1980 the reflectors in the tail unit and bars rear light with no indicator mounts do say US import
the guy bought it off Kawasaki Haven last year, not sure he has even covered the cost of the tires he put on it which may well go in the bin if they are cheep ones, ( I don't do cheep rubber )

will need an Air box and a rear mudguard both parts, seat, Bars, rear light mount, side Handle and i bet a hole load of other parts
he says its ready to MOT, its not been on the Road since 2006 as only did 100 miles since it last MOT the biggest pain is the red frame

hopefully pick it up next week will know more then

all comments welcome good and Bad

Hi Bruce
congratulations with the purchase of your second ST!
As far as I can see it's the E2 model from 1980. And at first sight a US import too.
Most of the parts are there, a very good start for a restoration and probably it has Koni shocks (allthough not sure) .
I have "a few" spare parts for an ST  .
Take care though: buying the ST model can be very addictive! I know what I'm talking about!

Good luck with it, I did see this one on eBay recently, it looks as you have a better starting point than I had with mine.

Well done. I saw that and thought it looked like a decent basis for around £1500.
I look forward to seeing your progress.

Very nice! And that RC Eng. Exhaust is one of the best available and very rare!

every day is school day as i did not know about the RC exhaust :D

as this will be the 14th Kawasaki I am in no hurry to do much other than MOT and Tax and any thing that needs to keep in well and running for this year

mind you there will be a few bits swapped around from the the parts bins I bet

I have always liked the Grey and Black of the USA KZ1000ST so if it is a USA bike i will go that way as my other is in Red

Looks like a decent basis to start with. The 2:4 style seat may not be to your liking but will make strong money if you choose to move it on :)

it may be the real thing with a poor cover or a poor copy from the USA as I have seen seats like this before or could be home made out of a ST base we will know soon

Wow, that’s pretty.
Mine is just so new, but so similar.
I’m just an infant to the Z1OC, but any help you can offer? All is valuable.
Cheers, -P.

I have half an idea the Pic's are telling lies with the quality of the paint work

have zoomed in on the wheels and my 16 year old boy would have done better :eek

just an update

with so many bikes the insurance company does not let me put new bikes on when i get them with out paying (no surprises there then ) ST no2 was added at renewal and then duly played with to get ready for the MOT even thought the seller claimed it would fly throw a MOT test, lots of bolts loose and the fork legs not being don up to name a few, there were more

the silver tank that came on the ST had a OK paint over in Silver and was a bit nasty the main problem was the old owner had used paint stripper and not washed it of with water so it bubbled all over the place also the badge mounts had been filled in (why :eek Screws are all of a few pence Each )

so while the paint set goes off to Sean for his magic I am running ST No1 tank and Side panels and a
spare tail unit which will be re painted at some point

Its now a taxted and Mot run around that will get what i call a rolling restoration trying to keep it on the road between small jobs wheels will need doing next as they are not good at all

that's all on this one for now
