My Z1000A1 - 99% done
My Z1000A1 - 99% done
Today I wheeled my Z1000A1 resto out of the garage for the first time in 18 months - hopefully the shake down runs (when permitted) wont produce too many gremlins.
Tried to keep her as original as I could, all chrome is original except the "Busso Pipes" grab rail and Petrol filler cap (which I decided to strip and rechrome - what a faff that was).
Needed a fair bit of cosmetic tlc, but used all original bodywork, and had the seat renewed by "Bob the Seat": had the expected full brake and carb rebuild, amd some wiring and engine jobs - but I'm happy with how she has turned out - hopefully just a bit more polishing to do then I might get to ride her sometime this summer / autumn.
Some pics below- the camera does not pick up the blue / green colour changes that well, but it does look nice in the sunshine.
Cheers Tim

Re: My Z1000A1 - 99% done
Hi Tonto,
That looks really nice, well impressed. I’ve got the red A1 and I’ve bought the Busso system in the group buy but not fitted it yet. What do you think to it? Does it sound good?
Also, who is Bob the seat? Mine needs a recover.
Cheers
Pete.

Re: My Z1000A1 - 99% done
I like the bike very much. Well done.
Has anyone mentioned that the reg. plate is hanging a bit low - and the tail light is pointing down a little too much??
I think this may be because you have the shorty rear fender from USA spec - combined with a stop lamp bracket from a different spec bike - possibly a long rear fender UK jobby.
I think the USA spec ones are pretty easy to get hold of on eBay if I am right.
Might be worth a look at some point. Sorry if this has already been discused.
Regards from Mark

Pete, hi
as Bill said - Bob the Seat (Robert Dillingham), trades on eBay as Bob the Seat, but also directly as Morretti Trading: if you get stuck I can PM you his email address contact details.
Re exhausts, not perfect, but well pleased with them for the money they cost - re the sound - only managed a bimble down the drive so far, sound ok but cant really judge them until used in anger.
Mark, hi yes that rear light / bracket position has been sending me bonkers: my bike came in from Michigan (KZ1000) and the rear bracket and light fitted: - I guess the seller previously fitted an incorrect unit. Ive got one coming from the USA off a 1977 KZ1000A1 (hopefully this week) - so am hoping that will sort it.
Cheers Tim
