Back in the day !

Just a couple of poor quality shots of my original 1981 Z1000J.
The first pic has a black ceramic Laser pipe and tasteful chrome shorty mudguard (that allowed the forks to flex too much for my liking) and chrome engine cases.
The second pic is after a top end rebuild following piston and bore damage after a prolonged high speed run. I used Gpz 1100 pistons/barrels and you can see the new oil cooler, with the return pipe going into the side of the engine behind the cylinder where the blanking plug is. Worked well enough though. Pipe would have been either an Alfa 4-1 or a Motad exiting on the left (had both over the course of ownership).
I have happy memories of that bike :D

I know this thread is from last year but.... is this a plug and play mod?
Do you need to use a GPZ1100 Unitrak oil take off at the rear of the motor under the carbs?

At the time, that was how the kit arrived. It had a custom plate and outlet from the pump that incorporated the oil pressure switch, with the return back into the side of the engine. Don't think I've ever seen another like it, but it worked ok and gave me no problems.
I'm not familiar enough with the different GPZ cooler set-ups to say which of those might work the same.

Thanks for the reply Rickm, I have found a Gpz 1100 B oil take off with oil pressure relief valve built in _ so I presume this could be used to fit an oil cooler toa Z1000J ?

Vinny the 'GPZ B' or 'Unitrak A' cooler router will bolt straight on and do the same job on a J as on the original as the engine casings are machined the same at that point.

Thanks for the info Al, that is reassuring that I am not barking up the wrong tree!
