GPz1100B2

#1 PostAuthor: BAFF1960 » Fri Nov 12, 2021 10:51 pm

Hi all.
I've been making some [ physical ] progress tidying up my newly acquired GPzB2 and am looking for a UK spec parts catalogue. Anyone got one spare or a useful link to one? Noted quite a few other versions about.

Here's an update so far. All the relatively easy stuff has been sorted such as replacing incorrect fasteners, shortening the overlength chain, restoring the original screen, fixing the loose clock binnacle and fitting a Lawson seat.

I was hoping to ride it a bit but the weathers changing now and DVLA haven't been so helpful or prompt with dealing with my request to register it here. That being the case I've decided to strip it down and attend to a couple of other bigger issues I was going to leave for later.

The chassis condition is ok but not top notch so I'm going to strip it down to get it powder coated now along with all the bit and bobs. There's an oil weep at the head/cam cover so the removal of the lump will address those. It will also give me more time to sort and fettle the Harris pipe that's coming which will look nice and period compared to the thing that's on it.

Manged to get out and about a bit on my S2 and its run in now so haven't been lacking entertainment but looking forward to the 11 still.

Alan

Hi Alan

she looks great to me ! I wouldn't strip her down to have the frame powder coated. The frame looks very nice to me so save yourself a lot of work and money.
About the oil leak...it's common on those bikes, unfortunately. Change the gasket and the camshaft rubbers and when putting the camshaft cover back on, start bolting it up from the centre of the engine and work your way outwards. It can help, not always but sometimes.
Good luck!

Nice looking bike you have there. If you've managed to find a Harris pipe you've done right well

Hi all.
Here's and update on the progress on the GPZ1100B2.
The UK registration turned up the other day [ on my birthday ] which was nice. Next day another V5 turned up. I'm not going to rock the boat with the DVLA about it as it could only lead to trouble methinks.
Noticed that the binnacle has a nonstandard badly fitted glass screen so ordered a new one from Kawasaki UK- via Japan.
Decided to strip it down this week for powder coating. Hopefully completed before the Christmas break.
Managed to acquire a NOS chain guard at an acceptable price.
Carried out a couple of reversable mods I think are prudent. Firstly extended the bars by 3" for a bit more leverage. Threaded inserts in the end of the standard bars were an easily adaption. Secondly fitted a radial master cylinder from a Z1000SX for better feel/performance and adjustment.
On going work carries on with the purchase of a s/steel replica Harris end pipe from MotoArbo which I will adapt to fit to the Delkevic collector box , 60mm down to 50mm. Had it slaved on and it sounded great compared to the straight over baffled Delkevic item.
Need to sort out some new fuel hose as its been replaced before with date stamping 1991.
After the post powder coating reassembly I'm hoping that's it.

Alan.

That replica Harris looks bang on... I've tried to have a look at the motoarbo website but it's all down... Did you just call 'em up ?

Hi.
Yep, just took the number from the web site and chatted to Terry. He had a couple left. took a week or two to get here. Very nice stainless item far better quality than the Harris original. He also supplied a step down fitting to suit the collector pipe. I have a aircraft spec welder/fabricator mate who's going to adapt what I've got to suit without it though. Should look and sound original apart from the down pipe routing under the engine which clear the oil filter housing,

Hi.
Managed to get the frame and fittings powder coated before Christmas and have started to make some reassembly progress.
Managed to get the registration sorted at the second attempt with the additional cost of a months tax [unused ] and a dating cert from the VJMC.
Its going to be very tidy when finished but I'm not intending to make it a show queen.
Looking at the last mod now - replacement rear shocks.

Hi.

Not actually a standard Kawasaki part but never the less a nice addition for my B2. My son who makes bespoke jewellery sent me a late Christmas present, a new key ring. He had previously made one to suit my S2. Solid silver with oxide finish and gold plated lettering.
