My Covid build

#1 PostAuthor: McBoney » Sun Nov 14, 2021 9:43 pm

To keep my wife sane (my excuse!) I extended my single garage and rebuilt a KZ1300 wreck. Pic as bought on a drunken late night Ebay foray... (oh sh*t! Its mine!)

And then after a complete rebuild. Goes like stink and sound like thunder... .Quit proud of my first ever build...

Hope you like it!

Welcome.

I saw this/met you last month at the Ace Cafe.

Very nice build and it drew a crowd as it was a head (and ear turner!).

Hi McBoney

well done for your first build, congratulations !
Not my cup of tea, I think it's sacrilege to change a classic Zed into a "bobber", but we can't all have the same opinion.
Now and then I too change a classic Zed into something else but it happens very seldom. As a matter of fact I'm starting a new project with a Z1000 ST...
I hope you didn't threw the original parts into the bin because they're sought after. If you didn't, sell them on Ebay.
Be carefull when riding your bike because a Z1300 is a beast!
Good luck with it.

I am also of the restoration to ‘original state’ school, but on this occasion there was no paperwork or history whatsoever, the engine was completely seized -took me three months to get the pistons out of the block, electrics were fried, a large number of engine items were missing and the entire front end was off a z1000t, so there was little original. Currently on the bike the frame and engine are z1300 original, the tank is off a 1100 Zephyr and the front end is off a Multistrada, as that is the only bike with forks as long as the z1300.

I agree it is an acquired taste and modding is not for everyone, and as said I am normally also loath to change things away from original, but the wreck I bought was so beyond saving, I decided to do something radically different.

I have not seen anyone turn a z1300 into a cafe racer and at one point I thought everyone else knew something I didn’t, but it turned out ok and rides surprisingly well.

And lastly, I enjoy the conversations people have around it whilst they don’t know I am the owner… :wink
