Those 4 into 4s look nice, but zeds sound like zeds when they're running a 4 into 1. Took the decision not to restore the original 4 into 2 on my Z1000a (admittedly the old 4 into 4s are much nicer than z1000 pipes) and fit a vance and hynes instead just because it's my bike and it needs to have the right soundtrack.

Really nice old Z....! Some say z900's were better than Z1's anyway others say the Z1 colour schemes were the best, so you might say what you've got here is the best of both ! I wouldn't disagree !!
However, don't let others discourage you from doing whatever you want to do with it. Put a 4 into 1 on if you like - its not like you can't put the original pipes back on later. It's worth considering that old Z's are classic bikes now (dare I say vintage ?) and some argue they should be presented exactly like the showroom / brochure model (and thats fine). From that point of view, original exhausts should stay. There are others who will point out that so many old Z's got changed and modified the moment they left the dealers showroom and that modifications are just part and parcel of the old Z - check out the modified and race style bikes that come up on this forum. Its your choice ! I would however suggest, before you decide and if you haven't already watched it, have a look on You Tube for "So Far So Fast" with the Z1 at Daytona in 1973. Zeds with both Standard AND 4 into 1 exhausts are featured in that video... check it out !
Great bike...whatever you decide to do !!

I'm with you. I think the 4-4's look great but i like to hear more of a soundtrack. Still, each to their own
