Those flares would take about 50% of the fall damage... in 1979 i was 7.. still dreaming of bikes though.

I think they may have been Rickman?? I ordered them and the front ones from an ad in MCN as I recall, thankfully never needed them.

Those engine bars were quite dangerous
a pal of mine nearly lost his leg after a car clipped the right engine bar and it struck his leg breaking it in several places
His injuries were so bad He never got back on a bike again ever
